Automotive Glass Impact Tester

The Automotive Glass Impact Tester is designed to be in accordance with European Regulation 43 (2.1-2.1.4). The set up is used for testing impact resistance of rigid or soft glass used in automotive applications.  This is done by dropping a 227 gram (g) steel ball freely from a height of two (2) meters (m), onto the center of a 300 millimeter (mm) square test sample.

The base of the Automotive Glass Impact Tester consists of a precision machined box made of powder coated steel construction. Test samples can be clamped down between the top and bottom edges of the base, which is lined with rubber gasket material. The ball drop tube tower uses one (1) upright made of 80/20 aluminum extrusion with support plate to hold the tube over the sample drop box.

The tube features a pin location two (2) meters above the sample height for suspending the drop ball prior to the test. The operator will then pull the pin and the ball will drop on the sample within 25 mm of the geometric center.
