The Schap Fabric Hand & Drape Stiffness Tester is used to evaluate the flexibility (handle and drape) of nonlaminated automotive upholstery textile materials based on bending length and flexural rigidity. A specimen is placed on the horizontal aluminum guide fixture and slid out over the 45-degree face. The specimen overhangs the edge like a cantilever beam and is slid until the free end of the specimen touches the 45-degree face or bends 45 degrees. The stainless steel metric scale is then used to determine the overhanging length of fabric (the bending length). The bending length and mass per area are used to determine the flexural rigidity of the material.
