110mm Square Glass Fogging Test Plates

110mm × 110mm glass fogging test plates for automotive interior material fogging tests using 1-liter (1000 mL) test beakers.

Schap 110mm Square Glass Fogging Test Plates are precision-sized glass plates used as condensation surfaces during laboratory fogging tests of automotive interior materials. The plates are designed for use with the Schap Dry Fog Tester and other compatible fogging test equipment using 1-liter test beakers.

During a fogging test, volatile and semi-volatile substances released from the heated test specimen condense on the cooled glass plate. The resulting deposit can then be evaluated according to the applicable test method and customer specification.

These 110mm × 110mm plates are particularly suited to photometric/reflectometric fogging measurements, where the change in the optical characteristics of the glass is used to determine the material’s fogging tendency.

Why the Glass Surface Matters

Automotive fogging tests measure material emissions that condense onto a controlled surface representing the type of deposits that can form on vehicle glazing.

For photometric testing, proper preparation and handling of the glass plate are important because contamination, fingerprints, cleaning residue, or improper orientation can influence optical measurements.

Applicable procedures may require identification of the tin and non-tin surfaces of float glass. For example, ISO 6452 specifies 3.0 ± 0.2 mm float-glass plates with minimum square dimensions of 110 × 110 mm and identification of the two glass surfaces. iTeh Standards

ISO 6452 — Determination of fogging characteristics of trim materials in automobile interiors

SAE J1756 — Determination of the fogging characteristics of interior automotive materials

ISO 17071 / EN 14288 — Fogging testing of leather

They may also be applicable to OEM specifications including GMW 3235, GME 60326, HES D6508, MS300-54, PV 3015, PV 3920, and TSM0503G, depending upon the specific procedure and equipment configuration.

Important: Always verify the current revision of the applicable standard or OEM specification before testing. Individual methods can specify different glass preparation, conditioning, test temperatures, exposure times, and measurement procedures.

Handling and Preparation

Glass plates should be handled carefully to prevent contamination of the test surface. Avoid touching the measurement area with bare hands.

Before testing, clean and prepare the plates according to the applicable test standard or OEM procedure. Schap glass fogging plates are not supplied pre-washed.
