Dome Plasticity Fixture
The Dome Plasticity Fixture (Plastometer) is a grain break apparatus used to measure the set-in lasting of upper leather. The device complies with design requirements set out in BS 3144, Section 10.
A specimen is clamped at the rim by a ring. By turning a knob, the operator presses the leather into a form of a spherical cap with an area 115% of the free disk. The extended form is maintained for a measured time, after which the cap is released.
Schap offers Dome Plasticity Fixtures with several diameter domes:
- 70mm per BS 3144, Section 10, Figure 19
